Extra Items You Should Pack For Your Cruise In The Era Of COVID

We all hope not to get COVID on a cruise, but as I hear of more and more people who are getting sick on board cruise ships, it is time to start thinking about extra items you might want to pack.  These extras can help if you are actually sick or in case you are in quarantine because another member of your party is!

Masks and Hand Sanitizer

This goes without saying but there are definitely some crowded moments on cruise ships and on excursions.  Protect yourself and others with a comfortable mask when you are in crowded situations.

Masks, sanitizer and wet-wipes are a must for travel these days!

Extra Entertainment

Regardless of if the cruise line moves you to a special quarantine room or if you are allowed to stay in your own room, you will be stuck in a room.  Make sure you have brought with you plenty of books (I recommend loading them on your Kindle). Don’t forget to download episodes of your favorite shows/movies.  Just because the cruise line will probably give you free wifi during your quarantine, does not mean it will be fast. Pre-download some of your favorites!

A small selection of your favorite medication

Can’t get through a cold without NyQuil?  Bring a couple of doses of your favorite medications on board so you don’t have to rely on the choices or prices of those offered by the cruise line.  (I’ve become really addicted to these Vicks Shower Steamers lately – they would be with the NyQuil for me!)

COVID Test

An at home rapid COVID test is another extra item you should pack for your cruise. In case you aren’t feeling your best but you can’t decide if you yelled too much over the music at the club or if you might be starting to get sick, a rapid test can give you a quick peace of mind. If you actually get a positive, you will definitely need to inform the cruise because you will need to quarantine to protect others on your cruise.

Comfy Clothes

Be prepared to spend a little extra time in your pajamas.  The last thing you want if you are unlucky enough to get sick on a cruise is to not want to get out of your pajamas all day and only have one pair.  Pack an extra pair of pjs especially if you are on a long cruise!

Handheld Entertainment

Cards, a tablet or just a couple extra games on your phone are essential if you are stuck in your stateroom.  Pack in a couple of extras in case you need to beat the boredom!

Snacks

Cruise lines have unlimited food, but if you are stuck in your room you might want some of your favorite snack foods to help perk you up! All your food will be provided to you by room service, which might not be exactly the foods you want. A few extras could go a long way in making you feel more comfortable.

Extra Items YOU Should Pack

What I would take on a cruise with the fear of quarantine might be very different from what you want.  Take a few minutes as you are packing for your next cruise and think about small items that would provide you with a lot of comfort if you were sick or just ease your boredom and annoyance if you were stuck in your cabin and not allowed to leave it!
