Is Pride Month celebrated on a Carnival Cruise? What about on the Carnival Pride ship? Does Carnival embrace the name or move away from any idea of gay pride?
Carnival does acknowledge Pride Month, but no more so on the Carnival Pride than any other Carnival ships.
For the past two years, we have been on a Carnival cruise in the month of June and noticed several Pride themed activities.
Both of these were long cruises, so I don’t know if all these events would occur on shorter cruises.
On our past two week sail to Greenland and Canada, Carnival had a day that had several Pride Month themed activities.
They host a Pride Trivia. We love going to trivia anyway, despite the fact that we very rarely win. Pride trivia was no exception. We lost. But we did better than we did the year before! If I could only ever remember who created the flag for Key West’s parade….
The trivia is a mix of questions about the past, such as the original colors to the Pride flag and what president first acknowledged Pride month to questions about current events. We were surprised how recent some of the questions were!
Our favorite thing about the Pride trivia was that they were giving away the Pride flag whale tale pins. We grabbed several and now have them attached to literally everything – and gave some away ourselves.
That night Carnival also had some gay-themed music in the lobby and the nightclub was themed to queer icons.
For the record, we did not attend either of these events. It was nice though to see it acknowledged on the app and in the FunTimes.
One of the movies on the Lido also had a LGBTQ theme. It completely conflicted with dinner so we weren’t able to go to it, but it was present and a nice nod to the month as well.
Carnival also hosts a LGBTQ mixer pretty much every day, which the time listed in the daily planner. It usually takes place in the alchemy bar. Sometimes it conflicts with dinner, sometimes with a show, but it is present on all Carnival sailings.
(When we first started sailing, they actually had the mixer code named. You had to know what it was to know that you wanted to go to it. Shows how much things have changed in just the past ten years that Carnival didn’t even list it on the FunTimes and now it’s a clearly labeled daily meetup. Plus Carnival manufactures cute little Pride Whale Tale pins!)
None of the Pride month events are worth planning a cruise specifically in June for, but if you happen to be on a Carnival Cruise in June, check the planner for some events.
